engine warning light constantly on?
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my 96' sti. It started as an intermittant problem but now it is constanly the same.
After driving at a constant speed for a while on a motorway I noticed that my tickover would drop to hardly anything and would fluctuate between 1000 revs and basically just above stalling. on hard acceleration the car would lurch about and would not want to boost up. The engine warning light would sometimes come on. After a while this problem would clear itself, but would come back intermittantly. However, for the last two days the car is basically undrivable. The same symptoms are present, only the engine warning light is constantly on and the car is stalling a lot especially stopping at traffic lights.
I have been reading the previous posts on the forums and it would seem that the maf sensor is the likely culprit, but i would be very grateful for your help with this problem. Is the maf sensor the likely problem? How can I test the sensor to be 100% sure?
I'm sorry if this has been answered before but the forum is huge and would take a lifetime to trawl through, lol Thankyou in advance for your help, much appreciated.
Rich.

there's a procedure involving connecting two wires under the steering column. Do a quick search, see what you can dig up.
Basically you connect the wires and follow a simple sequence involving NOT starting the car, but switching ignition on. The Check Engine Light (CEL) then flashes a code.
IIRC it's something like one long flash = 10 and short flashes = 1. Sounds odd i know, but it's almost like morse code. A friend did mine for me and it came up with 3 long flashes and 2 short ones - in other words code 32: o2 sensor.
Try googling somehting like subaru ecu error codes, there's site which tells you what all of the numbers mean.
Sorry can't be more help

I have checked ECU codes, Three faults?
Hi again all,
I followed your advice and read the stored ECU codes. The codes that were flashed were 23, 24, 12. According to my code list this would indicate MAF, Starter switch and Idle air control solenoid. I can understand the MAF being faulty but do you think that all three could be faulty or could they be old codes? I have been quoted £190 for a replacement MAF as it is the version 3 sti. If all three are faulty could you please give me an idea on price and where to get them from? Sorry to be a pain in the **** guys but the best advice comes from you. Any help would be very appreciated, Thanks for your time.
