Flaming exhaust...but how.
My dad and i followed a Scooby 'Classic' and it was flaming. My dad said he had never had seen a car do that before and he wanted to know how is was possible. I know about flamer kits.

It is probably anti lag as rally cars use.
When you put your foot down in a turbo charged car, you get a moment where there is a delayed response time for the turbo to spin up to provide power. This is called turbo lag.
Anti lag basically retards the cars timing, so when you come off the throttle fuel is ignited within the turbo/exhaust which keeps the turbo spinning fast (ie no lag=instant response) hence the occasional flames.
Usually accompanied with a loud bang!

A bloke by me has a very well sorted Lotus Sunbeam. He took it for a few test runs up and down the road the other night
The thing sounds beutitful - webbers on full chat, spins up like a motorbike engine, revs like a Vtec...makes me pop my head out the winodw every time I hear it. I fear that this car could eat my scoob alive

Flames are caused by fuel in the exhaust igniting. This can be caused by a missfire....where not all the fuel is burnt in the combustion chamber, and is pushed into the hot exhaust. This can be both lean and rich fuelling as both will cause unburnt fuel to be present, although it is much worse when rich. Missfires- and associtaed backfiring (flames) are caused by lots of things, from incorrect fuelling (rich or lean) wild race cams with large inlet/exhaust valve overlap (such as the lotus above) or wrong cam timing, burnt exhaust valves, bad ignition components or timing- or in the case of Rover v8s a very slack timing chain! Did I cover everything?
