Default Engine light on wrx02.

My wrx02 came on the other day doing 80mph on motorway.

It stayed on for 3 days until i taken it to subaru dealer and they said it read cylinder 1 3 and 4 had some knock!!! I already got knocklink fitted and it never had any signs of knock!!! They reset engine light and hasnt come on yet after 3 days!

Has any1 had same problem?

CEL doesn't come on for knock, the ECU takes care of that. Not sure how they can tell which cylinder was supposedly knocking either !!
Probably just a spurious glitch, kinda like your PC or sky telly gets every so often, they probably wouldn't want to say they didn't know what it was

thanks andy.

read on the forum that the cel light on maybe cuz the maf sensor is ending its life soon. I ve had this car from new for 27 months now. maybe i will fit a fresh maf sensor.

Just in case it comes on again. Does any1 knows how to reset cel light for wrx02 DIY? i tried all the methods said on this forum and it doesnt work for my wrx02. And also can we buy a relatively cheap new or used cel reader???!!!

This happened to me too (in 5th gear doing 80 or so on the motorway)
Subaru dealers always just try to fob you off it would seem.

Took mine to Xtreme Scoobies, they plugged a laptop into the ECU and it was showing a misfire on one of the cylinders - but no further damage.

We put it down to a dodgy batch of fuel, and it hasn't happened since.

When I had my car remapped it had 97 RON BP Ultimate in it. I've now started supplementing this with Nitrous Formula and the Knocklink has gone very quiet indeed !! (used to flicker on full boost now and again)

hope this helps

Mike,

I dont think you can start guessing the reason for your CEL, there are hundreds of different problems that may throw a light.

However, there does seem to be a recurring issue with the MY01/02 which gives an P0301, 2, 3, or 4 (depending on the cylinder misfire) error code as read on a the SECS Unit.

It was suggested in a previous thread that a 'Dealer' had diagnosed a fault 'neutral position switch', however, I have not seen this confirmed.

Whatever the fault, get it checked

Martin
