Default 4500rpm fuel cut/ecu problem

ok ive just bought a 95 wrx, when i hit 4500rpm exactly the car feels like its hit the rev limiter and wont rev any further, I did the ecu reset and it seemed fine but then after a 20mile journey just steady away not using the turbo a lot on the way back it started doing it again. What could it be? the car has a forge dump valve on which ive been told it needs to be a twin diaphram and this could be causing the problem with boost leak.
Any ideas please!!!!!!!!!
cheers simon

Sounds like you're in limp home mode, is the check engine light on?

lol, yeah, seen that done before, light should come on when you switch ignition on, then go out when started. If it does'nt come on with ign, the bulb has prob been robbed. In which case previous owner has been a bit devious.

Which sensor set problem off, sounds like you just answered you're own question, do a diagnostic check to find which sensor is at fault, then renew it.

have u checked coil packs? if u have one or more breaking down then that is the sort of rev range u will notice it. (between 4k-5k is where maximum torque is developed) i had similar problem. worth taking each coilpack out, pulling off the rubber boot and checking for any cracks. even hairline cracks can cause it to happen.

just an idea!!

not tried taking out the coil packs isnt it a pretty big job taking out air box battery etc, didnt do it for 20 odd miles just after it was turned off. A for boost its getting to .75 bar which is about right isnt it?

just airbox and wiper tank needs to be removed to get at the coilpacks and plugs.

Pretty sure there are green plugs for checking the CEL - maybe review the CEL checking process or take it in. There definently should be a code.

thats sounds exactly the same as mine, code 45 is

Pressure sensor –Pressure exchange solenoid valve

what is that then? could it be to do with the dump valve or overboost mine only boosts to .75bar and does it when not under load.
