Default Check Engine Light

Hi All,

Was driving the car a little hard today when the CEL light came on. I'd warmed the car properly before doing this. Has anyone else experienced this?.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanx

It might just be a sensor.

Get it checked out asap.

Thanks, i'll do that. Would it be best to have it checked out at the dealers or will any garage be able to do this?

How much would it cost roughly to do this?

Its an MYO1WRX and it didnt blow up (sorry) , it was the sensor in the second cat.

Got a second hand one from the scrappy and all has been fine for 20,000mls.

EGT sensor/probe I think it was called.

If its thrown a cel then a dealer should be able to put it on their select monitor and read back the error code. This will tell them which sensor(s) caused the cel to be illuminated. Then they would have to work out why the sensor did what it did.

Either a main dealer or one of the independant ones. As long as they have the correct equipment and know what they're doing you'll be fine.

Not sure on cost though.

If you've got any warranty left then the dealer will check it and repair it FOC. If not, I believe places like Well Lane charge about 30 quid to plug it in and check it. Mine did it recently, turned out to be an O2 sensor on the zorst. Repaired under warranty. If it runs & idles OK and there are no strange noises then just keep it under boost until you know which sensor either failed, or really detected a fault.
