is it on a impreza???
if it is there is a small red relay under the dash above the fuse box the contacts become coated with age
use fine wet n dry to clean the contacts and it should start working again

You could have a bit of fun sorting that out...
The horn on my 98 Turbo stopped working, and I traced it back to the wiring between the switch (i.e. the middle of the steering wheel) and where it joins the rest of the wiring loom under the dash. There is a "roll connector" behind the steering wheel where the wiring for the horn & airbag turn into a sort of ribbon in a donut arrangement that allows the wheel to turn without screwing up the wiring. Mine was knackered, and iirc cost more than £100 for the new roll connector assembly.

TJG where did you ordered that spiral cable, any part number? This cable or roll connector stoped working on my car too(MY98). I made another switch for horn but airbag is disabled at the moment.

SoNiCa - from a Subaru dealer.
I just had a look on the invoice: part number is 98261FC002, and the cost was £181.81 inc. VAT. I felt bad having to pay so much for it, but with it being part of the airbag system I felt it was appropriate to get the proper part.
