Default just an interest question

i was wondering what the hell a flywheel does i see people buying lighter ones but what do they do this is just totally out of interest to boost my knowladge of cars

A lighter flywheel will allow your engine to "spin up" quicker... the downside is that your engine will become less willing to tick over..
