Question Strange noise on boost?

Well after a load of hunting around i finally got myself a MY94 WRX but it's started making a noise which I'm sure wasn't there when I got it

I'll explain it as best I can so bear with me here, as the car comes on boost I can hear the turbo spinning away nicely but it is accompanied by a kind of spluttering noise, kinda sounds like a valve leaking air or something, regular little bursts of air.

Now if that makes any sense at all has anyone got any ideas what it could be, it's started in the last week and the car has just been to Scoobyclinic for a service and rocker cover gasket (but I didn't mention it to them cos I forgot ) and it's still doing it. Car drives fantastic, there doesn't seem to be any affect on performance but just doesn't sound quite right somehow.

Help, pls

Thanks dj219957, you may be onto something, just been doing a bit more searching on here and came across mention of the boost solenoid. Thing is as I was still driving the car with the leaky rocker cover gasket I was keeping a close eye on the oil level and topping up as required but I think I may have over done it slightly , do you think it could be oil in the boost solenoid, would that cause it to become noisy??

yes perhaps. The old wives tale on here is to clean it out with brake cleaner.
It bugged me for ages. It went away when i fitted a dawes so i was pretty sure it was that.
If its not broken dont fix it.

Could someone just clarify for me, is the boost solenoid on the drivers side suspension turret facing you as you look at the engine bay from the front, 3 pipes and electrical connector?
