Doubt there is a flat four scoob engine that will fit mate, whats it going in? Can you modify the engine bay at all?

damn well it would be going in a peugeot 306 engine bay.could maybe modify the engine bay but it will be hard enough for someone to fit it.

If width is a problem then a boxer engine isn't what you should be looking for - try an inline or Vee.
I assumed you had a Subaru already and were sick of banging your knuckles during spark plug changes.

You're probably better off using the engine out of the 406 SRi turbo, only 150bhp as standard but there's bound to be some tuning info around for them, or failig that the 3.0V6 might fit but will probably make it handle like a pig on roller skates.

yeah the 3ltr v6 fits in but is a fairly hard engine to get hold of.the 406 sri engine hasnt got the sort of power i want as a std engine,im wanting an easy 250bhp with not alot of money.

It'd be a nightmare to fit a Scoob engine into a 306 I'd think, for a start, the Crankshaft points the wrong way to mate up with any normal 306 running gear, the Scoob crank runs along the centre of the car whereas the 306 will run across. Or were you thinking of fitting all of the scooby running gear ? In which case I'd have though making more space in the engine bay would be the least of your problems. Something like a Ford Cosworth turbo engine or an engine out of a Mitsubishi would be far, far closer to the right layout.

You will not really find a smaller scoob engine width wise. The drivetrain layout is completely different to a transverse engine too with the box completely behind the engine, if you want to use the box you will need to either use the 4wd system complete or get an adaptor to only run the front diff in a 2wd mode.

Surely the best bet is to just by another car.

If you dont want to spend alot of money, throw the impreza engine idea out the window. The conversion alone will cost more than a decent sports saloon!

a transverse layout would suit the lack of any significant tunnel in the pug

How about a 200sx lump?
Or a cossie? - that said, they cost a bomb. All straight 4s.
There was a car a while ago that used a V4 I think, but can'[t remember what it was.
There's plenty of marine V4 engines with varying amounts of BHP (up to around 250 odd non-turbo'd), but I can't see it being an easy fit into a car, as everything's the wrong way round in an outboard motor. They are pretty compact though.

I am putting a scoob drivetrain in a peugeot 505 estate and even then it only just fits widthwise no way any scoob engine will fit a 306

except maybe a justy!!

You would also need to fit the rear axle and front struts to get the 4wd in shorten the propshaft make a tunnel make stronger chassis legs etc etc

at least mine is already rear drive and big so has room to work
