Default BHP Problems...........

Ok here goes...........

Ran at well lane on sunday and only produced 237 bhp. i was hoping for something in the region of 265 upwards.
Current mods are.......... blitz induction kit, dawes device boost controller set at 16 psi, full decat.
I ran up there last year with the only mod being the induction kit and a backbox and it pulled 235 bhp
The car is running fine, pulls great but obviously doesnt have the bhp figure to match the spec.
Anyone got any clues on where to start first?

Not being funny here, But perhaps they have finally set there rollers to be more accuratte / conserative as they have always been on the optimistic side ..
If it runs fine , pulls well, drives well Be happy & enjoy it, Because you could be searching for the Red hearing , If you know what i mean

237 BHP, is that it, Tut Tut still some way to catch the slow Bugeye i used to own,292 BHP.who said Classics where quick.

But seriously John, if its running good and 'Feels' good dont worry about the BHP figure.

Yeah i know mate but must be something wrong if a decat and upping the boost by 3 psi only gave me an extra 2 bhp lol

People have said, fuel pressure, split pipe, fuel pressure reg on way out :s

Oh yeah, its still quicker than Saab's

John, have you tried the car with the standard airbox fitted as the induction kit (Blitz) without correct mapping could be doing more harm than good.

Do you remember Franks car (Green MY01) with the Chav light, well that ran like a pile of p##h with a full typhoon induction kit from K+N, when i re-fitted the OEM airbox it was perfect.

Russ also said his car was cr#p with a free flowing airfilter but fine on OEM.

If not take it to the place in Manchester and get them to RR'd it for you.Buzzer knows the guy there, the name escapes me at the moment.

Your car did sound a little flat to be honest.

Have you tried swapping the airflow meter? Maybe the MAF is on its way out.

Does the car drive/run/idle ok?

What's the service record on the car like? When did it last have oil/fuel filter/plugs? All these things and more could cause your car to be down on power on the day.

What bore is that exhaust you have on? I know it's about a 3 foot tailpipe, but what's the actual diameter of the system? Maybe it's that that isn't doing you any favours.

I remember you had a really bad run at Well Lane before, wasn't that MAF related?

Just looked at your graph from Sunday,

The car builds torque ok, hitting 220lbsft peak by 3500rpm, which isn't bad but I'd expect more from a car with a full decat.

But then the torque curve has a huge valley in it dropping down to 200lbsft from 4500 to 5750.

There's a little peak again at 6000 and then the torque divebombs down to 160lbsft at 6750.

So I would say there's definately an issue there.

What happens with your boost on the road, does it peak and then die off quite badly?

I suspect you have maybe a boost leak somewhere if it's not a MAF issue.

Why not bring it over to us and we'll have a look for you? We won't charge for a simple checkover.

Thanks Rich

Car was serviced approx 4k ago and had plug change so they should be ok.
MAF sensor changed back in June, car does has had MAF sensor problems and yeah the last bad run was MAF related. Hoping it is something simple like a split boost pipe etc. Unsure on fuel pressure as i dont have the gauge and think my lambda sensor has gone up **** creak as the afr wont work.
Will have to sort out when im off and pop up. Will i need to book it in or anything??
Cheers for the help mate
John
