Default Quieter 3" backbox..?

I curently have an HKS Hiper and finding it a bit loud. Ive had decats before, but this is a 3" system and does seem to be a bit louder. I cope with it ok, but do find it a bit embarrasingly loud when I have passengers in the car I usually have to explain that i'm not a Kev, and its purely for performance purposes...

I have thought of a bung, but that may affect the TEK map (backpressure) once ive had it remapped. Not sure as I haven't seen the bung.

I believe John B did some tests on the HKS a while back and it gave about 5 bhp more than some others? Its still a bit too loud though

Any ideas on a 3" flanged one which is quiet???

Ron, H&S is loud too from the one I had.

Sticky, what size tail pipe is it?

Guess its a bit of a speculative question. Id like it to sound a bit more standard Stealth etc... It has a resonated HKS centre too

You could always add some (wrapped) Gruppe-S headers. The couple of installations I've encountered, they seem to me to give the same noise, just at lower volume. Of course, you'd need the map tweaked etc, but potentially you'd get performane gains as well.

Quiet 3" systems, revolution as mentioned seems well liked. My APS system is 3" though to the backbox, dropping to 2.5" into the backbox (once gas has cooled and contracted so not big restriction) and is not much noisier than a PPP. 4" round tailpipe. They also do a full 3" system, but I imagine it is a bit louder than the 2.5"

AFAIK don't think the Revolution back box will fit on its own as the pipe work is different.
Need their centre pipe as well.

Why not just get a largish resonator put into the HKS center pipe?

Andrew...

I got a prodrive back box for sale, nice and discreet at low revs but can liven up if you push the loud pedal hard enough! I wanted something a bit louder without being OTT, and went for H&S which gives that bit extra rumble at low revs which is what I was after. Pm me if your interested.

Its VERY restrictive and would defeat the point of the rest of the 3" system

I might try H&S Ron.

Rich, Prodrive isn't 3" flange I dont think.

Andrew, HKS mid pipe is a resonator already....
