Default electronic boost controller

if i fit an electronic boost controller like for example the avc-r or hks controller on my 96 impreza.will i need the 3 port boost solenoid or do i just unplug it???

The 3-port solenoid will become pneumatically redundant but will need to be left electrically connected as the ECU will throw a CEL. If you wish to totally remove the solenoid a resistor of an equivalent value to the impedance of the coil can be connected across the oem solenoids plug.

cheers for the info. just one more question . will i need to get a hks or turbo smart fuel cut defencer raiser?

No, as soon as you disconnect the boost solenoid you have no fuel cut as the ecu is not controlling boost anymore

Sorry but that's wrong. The solenoid only controls boost, NOT fuel cut, which is still done by the ECU based on readings from the MAP sensor (it cuts off the injectors). Disconnecting the boost solenoid will not stop you hitting fuel cut if you turn the boost up without either getting a remap that raises fuel cut, or by using a 3rd party fuel cut defender.

Sorry but you are wrong there, I have been running 1.3 bar with the std boost solonoid disconnected for 2 years with no fuel cut issues, on the later cars it is correct but mine is an MY98 so no the map sensor does not throw fuel cut
