Default Dodgy Window

My drivers door window clunks when it goes down, it also goes down in stages as though it's about to fall into the door - has anyone else had any probs like this on a bugeye? how do i get the door panel off to have a look behind?

cheers

Its quite easy to remove the door panel, do the following:

First wind the window down fully (makes it easy to lift the panel out at the end)

To take the door panel off theres a couple of screws,

Remove screw at the bottom of the door handle, once removed the button control panel (for the windows) clips out. Underneath this there is a screw securing the panel (to metal door handle) remove this screw.

Remove screw in the door handle surround, (covered with a plastic cap)

once the screws have been removed disconnect the window control panel and put to one side. The whole door panel can then be clipped out, start from the bottom edge and work up using your fingers to unclip (might be a bit tight). When all sides have been unclipped lift the panel upwards and it will come out.

As for the window noise, could be catching on the way down the track? Maybe check the rollers and stoppers.

Sorted........

I had a look behind the panel and found a bolt had dissapeared from the regulator so when the window was wound down the whole assembley moved?

tightened all the other bolts while i was at it - don't know where the missing 1 went, not in the door bottom?

Blue Haze - follow the instructions above to remove the panel (should be very similar on classic shape) - check all bolts, connect window switch with panel off and roll window up + down and you should see if there's anything moving that shouldn't be

to replace panel it pushesback on (plastic clips on back snap into holes), replace screws and sigh with relief - £69 per hour labour rate saved

Default What a night

My Bro. came up from London, and 'cos my UR quattro is being mended, he let me go for a thrash in it... window F**ked up, and low and behold... advice how to sort it. 3 of the 4 bolts had fallen out ( thank god for the plastic ) Put back in & tightened... SORTED.. Also noticed that the white plastic that fits in the front runner had broken.

Makes you wonder where the bolts go when they fall out?
Mine wasn't in the door bottom
