Default Fitting VOS Chip in Z4 ECU

Hi

I need some help.

I received a VOS chip the other day and am going to attempt to fit this my self in a Z4 ECU tomorrow.

Could any one provide me with info on what needs to be done.

Will i be able to just put it in?
What wire do i cut?
Will i need to solder?
etc

Thanks
Dave

Take the top off the ecu and you should find a spare socket for the vos to push straight into,if you havnt got that spare socket there should be 28 solder holes which need to be solder sucked to enable the vos to be soldered into the board, once that is sorted you need to cut the resister labled J1 to activate the vos map and then enjoy!!!

You will almost definately have to solder. If so you will need a solder-sucker first to suck out the solder leaving 28 holes. The socket (probably attached to your chip board at present - you can pull it off) should then be soldered on. Do a good job or else you will have bad results.

The J1 resistor is an upright brown resistor, and it is labelled. there is another similar one, it is not that one - make sure it is J1.

Thanks peps, this info was much needed, I took it to a TV Repair bloke and told him what you 2 said. It's now fitted and the result is wicked.

I will test out properly tonight when the temp drops.

I will post my views incase anyone is interested.

I tested out the Chip the other night, The power gain is unbelievable.

I did on the other hand get a bit of activity on the knocklink and i think a fuel cut so its on to power engineering next week.

Ill start another thread in the General section by Friday night.

Is your car de-catted??

I thought the VOS was very good, made the car significantly faster but I just didn't trust that something wasn't going to go bang so I sold it.

Also, the CEL issue annoyed me. You can take out the bulb but then how do you check for fault codes? Best bet is to fix a switch to the CEL wire (so that you can turn it off with chip activated) and also fix a switch to the J1 resistor so that you can turn off the chip to turn the car back to standard to check for codes.

Yer the car is Fully De-catted,

I am very impressed with the performance gain, but don't know how much trust it till i take to power engineering and get them to check it out. I'm not going to burn about till then.

The CEL light is pretty annoying and i was going to put a switch on the CEL light and the resister prob at the weekend.

Do you know which wire is for the CEL light?

Thanks
