Default Leaky Turbo + Induction pipe?

My 01 WRX had a small problem that it was smoking from the engine bay, I took up to the garage and it turned out that the induction pipe connecting to the turbo was coming off as it had swallon at the clip. They tightened it up and the car pulls alot harder now. After talking to a few guys they said the turbo could be on its way out, how do you know this as the car hasnt lost any preformance.

The pipe is being replaced under warranty. Any other help would be great.

Thanks

round the top of the turbo where the induction pipe joins on to it its soaked in oil and when u stop driving thats when it smoke. I take it thats what it is as everywhere else is bone dry oil free.

Could be the normal breather system which dumps oil mist in this intake pipe. If there was a leak it could have gone onto the turbo housing which would then smoke.

With a leak of this size though I would be more worried about the engine having run lean because of more air going in than the MAF knows about. But since the engine is still working see how it goes.

More likely the exhaust housing because it is hotter, but if the inlet pipe was leaking the oil would probably splatter the compressor side?
