A FEW QUESTIONS!
Hi all
Have a few questions hope you may be able to help.
Q1. Lifted the carpet and had a look at my ECU at the weekend for the first time. Its a 2C (MY94). Can anyone tell me anything about it. Have done a search but no success. Also noticed I have not got the 28pin socket for the chips. Planning on VOS chip so can I get one of these sockets fitted. Where can I get one. Does it just solder in in the space where they normally go?
Q2. ECU fault code 21 came up - Engine coolant temp sensor. Car seems to be running fine. Fans are not coming on. Headgasket went few months bak and overheated badly. May it be coz of that? Are they easy to replace?
Thanks for any answers or information!

Your ecu will be the 240 bhp version. It is normal on a import not to have the chip holder. When you buy the VOS chip you should ask for a chip holder with it (should come free anyway). You can then take the chip holder and ecu down to your local tv man and he will de solder the holes in the board for you and solder in the chip holder. Then its a case of plug the ecu in (only goes in one way)
I manged to do mine myself with a good small solder iron and a pin to desolder the holes.

No point in buying a z4 mate and then putting a vos in as this would run exsactly the same as your 240 bhp ecu + vos
either
a) get a vos and put in your 240 bhp ecu = 280 bhp approx - runs on normal super
b) get a z4 ecu - 260 bhp approx and run with without vos chip and with optimax

Cheerz for that mate. Saved me a few quid. Stick with my ecu and a VOS then. You mentioned normal super with this setup which is cool as its cheaper but would optimax not be even better?

As DEKA said passenger side footwell on the up slope that leads under the glove box. Under the carpet and then behind a metal protection plate.
Is it fine to just un plug the ecu (the 3 or 4 big yellow connecters) cos I shagged every screw trying to get the outer case off of it?

Yes VOS will work with optimax and yes would give slightly better performance.
Have just finished fitting my td05 and vos - see general section thread titled mission "td05"
If you opt for the vos chip then you will also need a MBC (manual boost controler) they are about 25 quid and allow you to trim the cars boost to your desired level (in the case of the vos, 16psi which apprently is practiacal maximum on the classic before you have to get bigger injectors and worry more about det. etc) Without this i found that the car overboosts and hits the 18 psi fuel cut. Easy to fit.
In my opinion MBC is better way of controlling boost over 3 port solenoid and can give better spool up.
If you dont want to opt for the MBC go for the Z4 which is plug and play no messing.

VOS and MBC, 16psi and Optimax sounds good. Cant wait. Have had the car a year and a half now and still have never been able to put my foot down and feel what its like to drive a scooby coz of one thing after another. Had fuel cut (over boost) since the day I picked it up, then the clutch went then the headgasket went and took the radiator with it. Up pipe to the turbo is blowing at the moment. G/box needs a rebuild coz under any load it wont go in gear. Been saving for fookin ages to sort it.Cant believe I bought such a duff piece of ****!. Let you know when its all done.
Cheerz for your help.
