Default Turbo heat shield

Just a quickie guys
I am in the process of changing the DP on my MY99 and found taking the heat shield offa total **** !
I had to cut the back part off to remove as there was no way of pulling it up without taking the IC off and servo etc etc
Does this have to go back on? what the likelyhood of trouble due to the heat???
The bolts were at **** to take of and I assume will be a **** to align and tighten
Any thoughts
Cheers

I've run the last 3 years without turbo heat shield or downpipe heat shield with no probs whatsoever.

Put it back on.
Go for a quick blast with it off and then feel how hot the corner
of the intercooler gets!

Not sure about this?

My intercooler gets hot with the shield on. This is only after the car has sat and has suffered heat soak from the turbo. After a quick blast with full boost the I/C has a uniform heat across it and the corner only gets hot when stood.

The intercooler will still get warm from the heat in the engine bay, the heatshield on the turbo will just help to delay this, when the shield is off the corner of the intercooler closest to the turbo will be unprotected from the intense heat of the turbo making it more of an interwarmer than it already is!
Any help to keep the intercooler temps down has to be a good thing.

Dan.

My car had no turbo heat shield when I bought it and I noticed that the IC was substantially cooler when I fit one.

Well went for a run with the shield on and everything was fine.....apart from some smoke when i stopped!!!!!!! must have been the GT85 i sprayed on all the bolts to release them as it didnt happen again(phew)
Does anyone know of a *better* heat shield though?? Maybe a CF one as I would have thought a metal one would get hot and radiate the heat anyway??
plus it would look good

Might take it off and put some heat reflective material under it
