Default K&N 57i cone filter info

Hi all, just a quick note to let some of you know a little info when running the 57i induction kit/cone. Hope I'm not being a muppet and telling you something you already know. A rally car preparation friend told me recently, that in mycase of running this filter in a MY 97 model, to remove the thin metal plate fixed under the bonnet vent, pull off the rubber seal along the front of the bonnet and remove the old plastic air box inlet to provide maximum cooling and air flow to the filter. This is what Prodrive do apparently. I questioned the metal plate as this would allow water to fall onto the filter. His reply was that the filter is oiled and so waterproof!. Any other thoughts on this, be good to discuss. Cheers, Matti.

Hi Matti

I would not advise getting any water near the filter. Also the water could get on to other parts of the engine and F**k them up too.

I have been running a 57i for several years now and have found that the cold feed pipe is ample.

Cheers Red.

Hi, I removed the metal plate from my '00 W reg scooby and never had any problems with water ingress?! Not sure if it made any difference though, so not sure if its really worth it?

Water going through the filter would only cause a problem if it lowers charge temperatures by a large amount. If this happens, the ecu will not be able to match the fuel requirements due to the size of injectors and fuel pump. Had mine fitted for 3months now and no probs.

Sorry but water droplets entering the turbo can smash the compressor blades, plus if the filter gets damp it won't let the same amount air through.
