Default Fuel Surge Tank ........DIY?

Has anyone fabricated their own fuel surge tank? The ones I can find on the web are a bit expensive. I found this site.

http://toyotaperformance.com/surge_tank.htm

It seems pretty simple to make one of these but where does the extra pump get supplied from electrically. Is it simply connected in parrallel to the stock pumps wiring?

I currently have an uprated fuel pump in the tank but I am thinking of refitting the OEM pump to feed a DIY surge tank and then fitting my uprated walbro pump to the outlet of the surge tank. Is this viable?

Cheers,
Kev

I looked at having one made and in the end bought one (1.5l swirl pot) from demon tweeks with the the walboro acting as a feed pump and a bosch 044 as the main supply pump.
I think the Walboro might get to hot, it's an in tank pump, cooled to a degree by the fuel in the tank. At least that was what I was advised.

I just need to fit it all together now

I used to design 12 volt pumps (!) and you use the fluid it is emmersed in to cool it.
Check-out the MRT high pressure pump, tank fitted with a built in swirl pot!

I would like to do this aswell but it looks like you would need to move the high pressure one out of the tank into the engine bay (possible?) and then replace oem. Could you not just form some kind of baffled tank around the pump in situ.

So what about wring the extra pump in. Would the two pumps just run off the same supply?

This is why I think the MRT unit is the best.
Stock wires
Stock tank.gaskets.pipes
Baffel surrounding the tank based pump
No changes under bonnet to all those high pressure, glowing red turbo areas.....Flash!
Got to be a good deal!?
Hope I get one for Xmas from the 'boss'....

That shouldn't be a problem, it should be possible to run a separate supply and have the pump turned on via a relay. The relay would energise using the OEM pumps supply....

I sent MRT an e-mail a few days ago but had no reply. Do we know how much the charge for one?

trouble is the standard fuel supply pipe maxes out at 500bhp, and if you want more you need to run another.

Not a problem for most people but I am looking at getting a combined washer fluid bottle and surge tank with mounting brackets for two 044s on it.
