Default Idle at 2000rpm

After a quick little burn last night, the idleing would rise up to 2000rpm. As i stop it would go down to 800rpm then back up to 2000rpm.

This lasted for about 10mins and then sorted its self out. Its been fine all morning on my 40mile trip to work.

Does anyone know the cause to this.

Thanks in advance

Dave.

It's idle air control solenoid valve (suppose it should be IACSV really!) and it does as it says really, allows enough air in when the throttle's completely shut, to prevent the car from stalling.

On a MY00 it's situated just above the throttle body, where the hose from the intercooler meets the inlet manifold. Once unscrewed and removed, it can be cleaned with brake cleaner or equivalent. If you click here and scroll down to page 38, it's item 2.

I'm still having a bit of trouble. It doesn't seem to be in the same place or i could just be blind. Below are two photos of my engine could someone please point out where i am ment to be looking.

I noticed in another post about removeing the intercooler. Is this right.

Also the car seems to Juder a bit when cold. Would this be linked?

Thanks
Dave

I guess it's not the same as a MY00 then...! Bugger. Sorry mate, dunno where it is. Certainly can't see it on either of those pictures. Unless it looks different as well as being in a different place...

Cold juddering wouldn't be linked to ICSV problems. Are you on about engine judder, or clutch judder...?

Your idle control valve and solenoid is that creamy cap thing on the bottom right of your intercooler.

Ahh, right. So the intercooler connects to the inlet manifold in two places then - the main throttle body, and the ICSV? And on the later models, they combine the two. And put the dump valve just above where the ICSV used to be. That makes sense. So where the hell's the dump valve on that picture then...?!

Cheers for the input, I will have a look in a bit.

The Juddering i think is something to do with the engine. When acceleratins slowly in low revs it starts felling jumpy, the car feels as though it pulls back and then accelerates.

The dumpvalve is the thing on the left of the intercooler with the blue hose.

Judge, what could cause the juddering,

Thanks dave

This has just happened again today.

Accellerated to about 4000/rpm in 1st and 2nd then stopped at the lights and the car stay on idleing at 2000/rpm and was slowly decreasing. I then drove to the next set of lights normally and the idleing for fine then for the rest of the way home.

A bit later on the same thing happened again, I had a quick little blip down the road and stopped at the end and the idleing was bouncing up and down from 1500 to 2000 / rpm. I then drove till the next time i stopped and again the idleing was fine.

I check the ICV when this first occured and it was as clean as new.

Can anyone help!!!!!

Thanks
Dave

This happened to me on my last car, 94 WRX, and it was caused by the idle control valve. I was told that the shaft in the middle wears so it is no longer perfectly round and can sometimes stick and cause the idle to be high. The solution was to remove the valve, clean it and lubricate it with engine oil. The oil helps to prevent the sticking and it cured the problem. I was also advised that if the problem came back I would have to buy a new one, but it never came back. If you are going to do this make sure you use a thin oil so that the valve operation isn't slowed down, which will cause the revs to return to idle more slowly than they should. Hope this helps.

Cheers, Ill take it off again do do what you said. I have had it off before but didn't clean it as it didn't appear to be dirty.

This also happened again last night and this time the Engine light came on for a few minutes.
