Unhappy CEL Again!

The CEL came on again over the weekend - MY01 WRX

About the 5th time it's hapened (all previous occassions were 02 sensor due to the decat despite a CEL fix being in place which obviously doesn't work - best £58.00 I ever spent )

Driving home last night and glanced down and to my suprise it had gone out so probably not the O2 sensor unless the CEL fix had a loose connection and is now working.

Any ideas?

Anyone near Herts with a SECS I can borrow , not going to dealer for a reading again, charged me £35.00 last time.

Cheers

Chris

The CEL will reset after a number of startups

So the error is still there, but it will only trigger the light in around 4 more trips.

As for the SECS.. mine does not read the error code when I get CEL.

But I can re-set the ecu to clear it totally.

Chris

CEL code P0420 I would guess ???

I have a de-cat MY02 bugeye with a few mods and this was the pain of my life despite a scoobysport CEL fix at 60 quid !!

I decided to live with the problem and waited untill I EcuTeK'd the car and asked for this CEL to be supressed !!

Midlife......

PS My Local Dealer never charged for the select monitor / ECU reset

Thanks for the replies.

It's now come back on again

I thought that the SECS could read the error codes (the one that Nito tested on my car did) so that you could reset if nothing serious

Unfortunately I've got the PPP ecu on my car so not much point having ECUTEK remap How do I reset the ECU without a SECS?

Does anyone have a decat and CEL fix which actually works?

Cheers

Chris

mine keeps coming on too, MY02 with Ecutek and Sportscat downpipe.

Xtreme have had a look a couple of times, and they say it's showing misfires, sometimes on 1 and sometimes on 3. They changed the coilpacks around a couple of times and even replaced one entirely. But it keeps coming on, maybe once a month, always when I'm in fifth gear pootling along on the motorway

seems to be a common fault in Newage cars doesn't it

misfires are down to one of two things faulty neutral switch on gearbox or flywheel has been lightened

other cel mentioned above will be crank sensor fault

all common cel faults if clutch is uprated/changed, new flywheel fitted, tek3, light weight pulley fitted

just have to live with it

flashing cel light is common too

There are two different CELs for the rear 02 sensor. When you installed the CEL fix, was it the mechanical or electrical fix? If its the electrical, did you solder it in crimp it? It really needs to be soldered. Also take a digital multimeter and measure the volts before and after the CEL fix. The fix is basicly a "cap" to keep the volts below 4.5v (I think). I had this probelm with my cel fix untill I removed it and soldered it. If the elec fix still doesnt work, get two 18mm spark plug non-foulers. Drill one of them to 1/2 inch ID. Then put the drilled one into the exhaust pipe then the 2nd one into that, then the O2 sensor. This will space the sensor away from the exhaust gas flow so it will read a cooler temp. This is called the mechanical CEL fix. You can see a pic here:

If both of these dont work then the o2 sensor is probably bad.

Could also be the EGT sensor which is more prone to coming on after crusing at 80mph
