Default What is TD05/06 - 20G???

Hi:

I'm little confused about this hybrid turbo so, Anybody could tell me:

- Is either a TD05 or a TD06 modified?
- What kind of mod is? (replacement of wheel, housings, etc)
- How is comparing to the classical TD05-16g in terms of lag, efficieny and top end power? obviously in a EJ20.

Thanks in advance

it is both a td06 AND td05 put together really. it use's a td06 compressor(the bit at front) with the td05 backend. gives a little more lag, but bigger kick for longer.

peeps will obviously now jump on the wagon and pick out all the wrong bit's i've said

But you mean, Both the TD06 compressor housing and wheel or only the compressor housing?

And, How much lag? my TD05 boosts 20 psi @ 4000 RPM...

Thanks in advance

It is a TD05 turbine end with a 20G compressor wheel (from a TD06) and matching compressor cover.
Because the 20G compressor wheel is more efficient and doesn't need so many turbine RPM to create boost then the lag is almost identical to the std TD05-16G
20 psi at 4000 is not a problem, in fact its a bit better than that !!

Mmmm, that's sound fine... I'm looking for 350 HP and 350 lb/ft of torque, figures that I should get with the classical TD05, but I'm thinking in a Upgrade when I get bored...

So, if this turbo is more efficient, clearly the engine should be able to flow more air at 20 psi (my target) that the TD05 with almost the same lag. And have less temperature increase, so decreasing the likelihood of det... very interesting

Then:

1.- If I get the TD06 compressor housing and wheel, replace the TD05 one, Is a plug and play process?

2.- Any "guesstimate" power and torque figures (from your experience) of TD05 and TD05/06 mapped at 20 psi at the mid range?

3.- Is there some place to get cheap TD06 and 20 G wheel?

Thanks AndyF, drb5

Been down this route myself and have purchased almost all the neccessary bits. I wanted 350bhp too but there is a significant cost difference between 320/330bhp and 350bhp.

I have gone for target of 320/330bhp:

Tek3
FE TD05
Walbro Fuel Pump
FSE FPR
3" Straight through turbo bck mandrel bend Exhaust
Ported Headers
2" up-pipe
STi panel filter/K&N
3 port solenoid
Silicon hoses
AFR meter
boost gauge
Knocklink
AP Organic clutch

All adds up! If I wanted 350bhp I would need additional £1200-1500:

Uprated I/C
TD05/06
Bigger injectors (than 440s)

BTW doubt if you're going to achieve 350lbs torque with 350bhp.

I dont know much about these things...just from my research and the advice I have received from the pros on here.

BTW my car is MY99uk.
