Default URGENT HELP NEEDED - Re: O ring on FPR

I fitted my new FSE FPR today, and it's leaking petrol out of the adaptor plate. From reading other threads, it must be this o ring that must've been damaged. It may sound silly, but what's this o ring? What is it a part of, and can i get it from anywhere, andmost importantly, how and where do I fit the new one? Car is off road until this problem is sorted, so urgent reply would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Keigo

Oh dear

The o ring seals the remote sender. Because the remote sender sticks out further than the OE FPR I found that once I had connected the fuel pipe it was a real bitch to get it in straight and it so easily nipped the side off of the o ring.

In fact the only reason I had noticed that it had been damaged was because I didn't have the fuel hose on correctly and so took it out again.

I just used the o ring off of the OE FPR. I did find that once I knew this had happened then I took a lot more care fitting the sender.

Good luck

Zhastaph,

So the leak shouldn't have anything to do with the o ring? The remote sender you are talking about is the main unit, and not the blanking plate? Where on the original FPR is the o ring? Was it easy to take off, and refit onto the new unit? Sorry about all the questions, but need to be 100% clear before I embark on another bash. Thanks

Here's a pic from Nezz10's fitting guide.

http://images.fotopic.net/?id=688497&outx=600&oq=0

You can see the o ring pictured on the end of the sender.

Odd, that wont post as a piccy, only a link

The 'sender' that I refer to is the little unit that replaces the OE FPR so that the Adjustable FPR can be mounted remotely. It came with an O ring, that i sheared, but the o ring on the OE FPR is the same size so I used that one.

I'm getting the impression your's didn't come with an o ring, so you've already robbed the o ring from the OE FPR?

Oh, OK. I get it. So should I put the sender in place before I put the hose on, for the sake of saving the o ring?

I'll give you 50 quid if you can

I had the same problem, what you'll find is second time around you are 'aware' of it. First time round youare fighting like hell to get the bugger in there, second time around you've got your eye on what the o ring is doing and so work out how to straighten it out as it goes in.

As long as you've got the ring off the oe reg you'll be alright

Talking

It should just pop off really easy, I'm sure I just put a small flat bladed screwdriver behind it. TBH, it felt less brittle than the one supplied with the FPR.

Lol, that's the sorta thing you'd catch me doing

God knows, Id worry about the petrol breaking it down myself. A decent amount of PTFE wrapped round the end (against the sealing face) is probably wot I'd try if I was desperate. Trouble is you don't want it suddenly leaking and spraying on a red hot turbo

I'm sure you'll have a lot more success second time around though.

DONE!!! The o ring was the problem. Took it off the OEM, refitted with no hassle this time. I ended up connecting the hose first though, as on MY98, hose goes further towards the centre of the car, and it's so hard to squeeze the hose after fitting the sender first.

The FPR was leaking quite bad as well, but put some PTFE tape and it's now stopped. What do others use to seal the FPR?

Thumbs up

Also had problems with the threaded fittings leaking on the FPR used PTFE Tape and it's been fine since so you should be ok.
