Angry wrx sti starting problem

Right ive had a new gear box fitted in my sti version 4. When I took it into the garage it was running alright. Today they have finished the gearbox but phoned me to say that they couldnt get it to start. At first I thought it must be the immobiliser because the battery had been disconnected. However it does disarm itself as usual and when you try to start it the engine spins over but does not fire.

Upon taking at the spark plug (after trying to start it several times), they are obviously covered in petrol, so there is not a fuelling problem.

Next thing was to try spinning it over with the sprak plug out. When the ignition is turned on initially, there is a sprak, and a bang out of the exhaust (poss. the fuel thats got built up from spinning it over). BUT when you spin the engine over, there is no spark at all.

So they have taken out the crank sensor, had it tested and it was ok. Haven't tested the cam sensor and still could check the ignition amplifier. Other than these not sure what else it could be. Perhaps faulty immobiliser????

Has anyone else had similar symptoms and if so what was wrong? I am getting near the end of my tether with this so any help would be much appreciated.

It cant be any fault of the garage because they have only changed the gearbox but it bugs me that it went in there working and it dont now. Must just be a coincidence.

Any help and advice most appreciated.
Thanks Simon.

Get a Multimeter and check if u have any power coming out of the Amplifier with the ignition turned on. No pwer coming out= No spark at plugs.

there are no wires connected to the gearbox they have missed is there???? If so the ecu might require the signal before starting???? I think it's the speed sensor or something...

Just checked on later models manuals so not sure about sti4's...

there are three sensors -

a reversing one - grey
neutral position sensor - brown
hi-lo position sensor - black

there is also a speed sensor.. this should however throw up a code if not connected...
