Does a VF28 require an uprated fuel Pump on an MY00
If I fit a VF28 Turbo to a UK MY00 (in place of a TD04), will it require an uprated pump and/or regulator.
I know the MY00 comes with Yellow 440cc injectors, so not sure if the pump is also better then that on an MY97/98 that have 380cc.
The car is already running a Full Decat, Apexi Filter and ECUTEK Software and is up around the 270-280BHP mark.

No it wont NEED a pump, especially at STD boost levels. But as you wind the boost up (in the region of 18psi) it is always a good reliability mod to have an upgraded pump. The bosch or walbro intanks seem to do the trick.

It's already running 1.1-1.2 bar on the TD04, although this tails off at the higher revs.
AFR meter appears to be reading OK at the moment and Knocklink is quite.
I guess when I pop the VF28 on it'll be worth running is at lower boost initially (set with an MBC) to ensure all is OK. Then gradually bring the levels up.
What are the recommended boost levels for a VF28 accross the revs compared to the TD04 ?

1.25 bar mid, 1.1 bar at 6000 RPM works nicely with a TMIC. You may get away with your original fuel pump. You'll need to retard the ignition at the top if you go for lots of top end boost.

What you can get away with also depends on engine management. (Some form of aftermarket ECU tune change is essential to safely run high boost) I run my VF28 at 1.4bar in the lower rev range for good midrange punch and then taper to 1.3 towards redline. Am still running the std pump without probs but am upgrading to a larger one as a reliability mod. Also run 98 octane fuel and an Autronic plug in ecu. (Located in AUS.)

Main thing to watch is that the 24/28 will hold boost much longer, where the td04 just tapers off. So you fuelling system will be worked harder, which would highlight any issue with the stock pump. As mentioned, you may be OK with the stock item...and you may not. Whether you choose to replace or not depends on how confident you are of detecting a fuelling issue at high revs (baselined KL or det cans).
Also note: quite a few td04 cars, when swapping to a larger turbo, highlight the fact that the stock plugs are knackered (more combustion chamber pressure on boost), which can lead to a juddering effect as the spark gets blown out. Change plugs beforehand if you don't know when they were last done

Speak to Mark @ Lateral, the pumps are less than £100. Is it worth messing about, get one bought . Took me less than an hour to fit.
Honestly tho i think it's not essential as i know a few people running TD05s on post97 cars at quite high boost on standard pumps and the AFRs are fine... but for the cost is it worth the risk?
Tony.
