De cat or not

De cat or not
I have taken a trip over to scoobyclinic (nice guys) and there advice was to fit de-cat downpipes and center section to my scoob with a back box already fitted.
I forgot to ask ...will it be safe to run this set up without a re-map?
The car is std apart from the back box and soon to be fitted STI panel filter.
will this make the car better on fuel?
cheers
Paul

I have a group n back box, TSL de-cat centre and had the down pipe done at Scoobyclinic.
De-cat or not ? no real choice get it done, I did and have no regrets. pulls alot better, sounds fantastic.
As to the fuel situation, i cover approx 30k miles a year and since the de-cat i have not noticed a drop in mpg.

MY99, full de-cat, K&N induction kit etc

Ive got a 93wrx, and i used to get arround 280km to a tank (my car has the small tank fitted). I fitted a full 3" decat system 2 weeks ago, with no other mods, using the std ecu ....and optimax only
ive noticed an increase to around 300 - 310km per tank
I was expecting it go worse, this is a pleasant surprise....especially with fuel prices on the up.

Its a uk 99my
Its just 'they' said it would improve the consumption ??
I'm more bothered about damaging the engine by running lean/ problems with no lambda etc
So ecu remap or not???
Cheers

Some people have found they get overboosting when having a de-cat.
As many other posts say about modifying - guages will give you a good clue as to how your engine is behaving.
My opinion: Remap shouldn't be necessary, but a remap will give you more than just the benefit of bolting on an exhaust, as it can be mapped for good low throttle fuel consumption, and good, hard, smooth accelleration.

I've de-catted my MY00 UK car as well as a re-mapped TEK2.5 ECU. I cover about 600 miles a week and I have noticed a definite decrease in fuel consumption. Getting about 25-27mpg. Previously about 20-22. No real change in driving style, can't risk my license!

I have a my99 with front and rear de-cat definite performance improvement, definite increase in fuel consumption but worth it I think, no re-map required I also have Sti panel filter get it done and the windows down you will wonder how you lived without it.
