Default Which Fluids to use ?

I will at the end of the month be sorting out a sort of Top-Up service on the Scoob ( I have done most of it myself) but as part of this service I am supplying my own fluids (ooer) MY00UKTurbo

So any advice would be very welcome on firstly how much I will require and secondly which is the best stuff to go for?

Rear Differential Oil ?

Coolant ?

Brake Fluid Dot 5.1 ?

All comments welcome

Use Castrol Syntrax for diff/gearbox, use a long life antifreeze/coolant...can get at Halfrauds...lasts 5 years...Lucas/Silkolene brake fluid....Silkolene/Motul engine oil....

Cool

I'm a Castrol man myself

I think the Syntrax gearbox/diff oil is renamed Driveline, its 75/90 anyway

Engine oil for me is Castrol RS 10w60

Brake fluid is Castrol Super DOT4+

5.1 isn't the be all and end all of brake fluid, the stuff I use IMO gives better pedal feel and will stand more abuse on track. IIRC you do have to change it every 2 years though, which I would do with any brake fluid anyway.

Agree with Jay m A on brake fluid...I also used a Dot 4+ in preference to 5.1...

Thanks for the info. guys - I have always used Motul 300v engine oil in my Scoobs and continue to do so. I have just ordered some Motul brake Fluid and have 2 litres on its way. However what is the recommended amout of Brake Fluid required for a change ??

To be sure its just over 1 litre for a full change.

You'll have alot left over in your 2nd bottle, enough so that you'll only need to buy 1 litre for the next change.

Isn't 5 series brake fluid for race use only?? I use 5 in my race bike and change it every coupe of weeks as a matter of course - IIRC it has better properties than other fluids (4 etc) but absorbs water very quickly, hence why it is only really suitable in race applications where it will be changed a lot more often than in a road car. Can anybody with better knowledge confirm / deny this ?

Cider Boy

IIRC the 5.1 is opposite to what you say, as in does not absorb water at all. Its because of this that its not as good in race applications where the race fluids can handle higher temps - but absorb water as a trade off, and as you say need changing almost every meet otherwise performance degrades.

Perhaps DOT 5 is different to DOT 5.1
