unless you /your friend has a fuel cut defender, he only be able to turn the boost up to about 17.7psi or 1.14bar IIRC. might not seem much of a jump from standard boost, but it is

have fun

I wouldnt be going over 1.1 bar personally. NOT worth the risk without basic monitoring gear such as AFR ad K/L.

I would suggest caution if it's a MY01 or later WRX as these can't deal with amount of part throttle boost you get with a Dawes Device. The ecu stays closed loop until a certain throttle position is reached, meaning you may be seeing 1bar plus of manifold pressure with the ecu still trying to mainain stoich fuelling. EGT's will then rise along with risk of detonation and preignition.

AFAIK to use a Dawes with a WRX you really need to have the point at which the ecu switches to open loop fuelling adjusted to a much smaller throttle opening. This isn't a problem on pre-MY01 cars as open/closed loop switching is determined by manifold pressure rather than throttle position.

Ah, its a bug eye... Not sure how many people use dawes on these, as Si says, it can cause problems....

TEK remap is the proper way to go...

Having seen a wrx2003 with dawes (1.15Bar) and S.E.C.S. monitor, I never saw the 2 sec lag between open and closed loop, as the USA models do.

As the pedal is depressed, the mixture instantly goes from 14.7 to 11.1 (rich), on low, mid or high revs...Always rich when hitting the gas!!!

So that problem that USA WRX have may not apply to european models...

Do you have any proof of that delay in euro models?

Regards
NM

After EcuTek remapping my MY02 WRX bugeye sees 1.2-1.25 bar reliably. It's running a TSL sportscat downpipe, GrpN decat centre and backbox, Scoobysport uppipe and STI7 intercooler.

The only real det problems I get (well, orange/red activity on the Knocklink anyway), are when I've had to use 95 RON on occasion.....
