£50 OMG you must be joking. Try Maplins, they have a large selection of computer temp monitors that will do the job for a fraction of the price. They even have guages with alarms and outputs for fan controllers etc..

Check out its size, power supply and refresh rate before you purchase !

You are looking for 1sec sample rate and one that runs off the car battery for its supply.

Cheers

You may just have to buy one and try it out. Keep the receipt so you can return it. Put your fingers on the sensor to see how quickly it reacts to temp change. Make sure the sensor is the size you need for the area you want to measure.

Although it does not give any spec & is battery operated , Would look quite cool on the dash though

You can measure the temp of the i/c by placing the sensor on the i/c itself but that won't tell you much. Really you need to place the sensor in the air stream post i/c. So slip it under the rubber hose between the i/c and the throttle body so it's in the air stream there. It'll need to be a small sensor of course.

I got all creative after seeing this thread & created one last night, USing this gauge
http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...&moduleno=3258

Which i inserted into my inlet boost pipe using a modifyed threaded temp probe (like a water sensor) That i drilled out &then siliconed the gauges probe inside it.
Then fitted the digital gauge in a spare blanking plug by the hand brake. Looks good. Temps this morn were 12.3 oC cruising & started giving it some pig rose to 18oC, think i may be worrying now all the time by constantly gauge watching
WIll post some pics later

Dean

Welldone m8!
However isn't the sample period 15sec on that gauge, which is a bit slow??

wideboyuk,
In the instructions for the gauge it says sampling can be set at 15 or 1 secs, So i thought great set it to 1 !!!!!

Just does not tell you how & there is no manufacturer give aways either to enable contacting them, If it cannot be set at 1 , Ill just replace it at some point , not lost much for £7.99 & a couple of hours of my time.

Do you know of a suitable replacement that does sample more quickly & a similar size ???

Dean

Hard pipe was drilled & tapped to the probes thread, Probe drilled out to accomadate the gauges probe , Gauges probe siliconed into place, Hand Brake blank removed & widened to fit the gauge ..

Temp displayed was from heat soak as the car had been stood still for a while

Just about to say those charge temps look very low - then I see what you've got as an IC - I didn't realise what a majpor difference a front mount made...

I've been using the same display for monitoring intake temps at the filter for about 18 months.

Works well, but the LCD display has started to fail (think it got a bit too cold over the winter)

I've been using a digital gauge from a company called Protherm.....nice looking piece of kit, sits in the cointray on the dash in front of my right knee, fits like a factory part, 1 second refresh rate, big, easily seen display. Also has 2 built in relays, for fans, waterspray, etc. Use it in conjunction with Pt100 type probe, from RS Components, which is slipped under the i/c to throttlebody hose, fast acting and seems accurate. Did a 60 mile trip last night, think it was about 20 degrees ambient, gauge was reading 30 at a steady 4k rpm, up to 45 during about 30 seconds at 150 mph. Seen temps of 65 degrees during periods of heatsoak.

I've seen 70C+ in Germany in the summer, but little knock activity when measured in the same place.

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but is the temp probe actually wedged under the hose? Surely that will just give you the temp of the under bonnet area not charge temp??
