Default Speedo not working

I have just had a new engine fitted to MY94 WRX and it was running fine for about 120 miles. The car then started Stalling or the idle went to about 200rpm when i put my foot on the cluch to stop. Also the engine light comes on every now and then. I also noticed the speedo stopped working at the same time. I have been told the speedo is the cause of the car stalling.

I have been told this could be the converter or the cable has broken.

Could anyone tell me where the converter is or where the cable may be broken.

Could you also let us know if it could be something else

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I have just had the speedo chip changed in my legacy so if it is in the same place it will be Located behind the instrument panel.

Connections are all there with 1 wire going to the ECU. Near side foot well under the carpet.

May help.........

I was under the impression it connected into the gearbox somewhere.

Hi mate,

If it is a cable speedo, then the convertor is in-line this should be visible just behind the turbo... There should be a cable coming out of the bulk head, running down to the gearbox (with the convertor in line).

Maybe the heat shield is not in place and the speedo cable is resting on the downpipe/turbo which has frazzled your cable......
