Fitting kit for a Autometer 4303 Boost Guage
My Autometer 4303 Ultralite boost guage had just arrived and when i got all the bits out to see what was there, the bits that connect the suppled piping to the car seem a bit odd. I seem to have been suplied with a 1/8th inch screw fitting at each end and no way of attaching the supplied tube to a boost source, unless ofcourse it has a 1/8th inch thread. To my knowledge all the boost sources on the impreza are just nipples which a 3-4mm internal diameter hose will push over.
What i am trying to get at is, is this the normal fitting kit for this guage or am i missing something from it? If not, where can i get the 1/8th inch thread to nipple adapter.
Cheers
Dan.

Hi
I got mine in the middle of the week and after reading your thread, opened mine up and seem to be missing a t- piece amd a 1/8 connector.
Are these missing or do you have to get these seperatly?
Johnny

i got mine (along with an oil press gauge) from J W racing.
Im not sure if i did it or not, but the section of bits had a tear in it where it had been opened at some point. Maybe the parts had fallen/ been taken out.

I got it a couple of days ago and looked around the lot but like i said cant remember if it was open but my gauges were sealed aswell!
If you look in the instructions, the ferrule slides up and down the pipe and slides out. I know the sealing nut goes over it, but when i come to fitting the lot, when i screw it down and tighten it up, i assume it will hold it. Or is it worth gluing it to the pipe?

When used with the screw fitting the ferrule will crush down on the pipe giving a secure seal just like the olive will in a normal house pipe compression joint, however that is going to be useless for connecting that tiny nylon hose to a boost source in an impreza engine bay!
Have just sent mail to Jamie, will see what he has to say.

Im in the Caribbean and got the kit with the same issues, I made my own T piece from some brass tubing because it was late at night and i didnt feel to wait around to buy a Tpiece, anyway, i pushed the 1/8" clear nylon boost tube about 4 inches into 1/8" i.d vacuum hose with silicone sealant smeared on it, let that dry, then fit that bit of vacuum hose onto the T piece.
To note- ive had issues with a low boost reading when not attaching the brass screw collar piece to the back of the gauge with sealing tape or a smear of silicone sealant, it does not seal on its own.

I bought one around Dec and had the same issue, he wanted an extra £9 for the t piece and I told him that under the sales of Goods act his web site said it came with all fitting parts so he sent me the piece FOC!!
I will post a pic of the offending part.

Hi Dan
Just to let you know that i had no reply from J W so decided that i would do as cong said and went to halfords and got the t piece, but they didnt do any tubing.
I dont know if you are into your carp/specialist fishing, if not ignore me!
I went home and looked through the tackle box and found that by cutting a Korda boom tube down to size that it fitted like a dream over the t piece and i just superglued the boost tube into the Korda rubber tubing to seal it.
Havent tried it but looks good so far!
I suppose that if the company delivered what it stated on the net, i/we wouldnt need to do all this pissing around!

Hi Johnny
Not a keen angler myself, last time i went deep sea fishing i saw last nights dinner again! Have some other sources for bits and bobs like that so will bodge my own i spose. Don't really need the t-piece as there is a spare outlet on the inlet manifold on my car so it's just the pipe adaptor.
Hey i suppose this is where all the fun is at in this modifying lark!

Yes thats all you get!
Have had a definitive reply from Jamie @ JW Racing, he says he checked with autometer and they stopped suppling the t-piece and adaptor some time ago but have not changed the bloody instructions!
So down to halfrauds it is, i managed to find a t piece in their washer section that the small guage vac hose fitted into very snugly with the assitance of a 3mm drill bit and a bit of super glue for sealant, all seems to be ok.
Oh and thanks for the advice on sealing the screw on compression joiners, i used a bit of plumbers PTFE tape in it and the guage seems to be working great.
