Samco or MRT induction hose kit
Hi there,
Looking at getting either Samco Induction hose (TB997) or the MRT Hi-Flow Silicon Inlet Pipe.
Not sure what the Samco one costs, but the MRT one is £305.50
The text for the MRT one says:
"This awesome piece of kit replaces the standard inlet pipe from the MAF sensor directly into the turbo, offering greatly improved airflow and an awesome induction noise. Won't collapse under big boost like some of the cheaper alternatives. It can be used with an induction kit of simply with the OEM air box. Available in blue only. Will improve throttle response and overall performance. No modifications or drilling required for fitting. 76mm
diameter."
Are they both the same.
Any benefit in fitting either, or is the stock pipe good enough ?
Thanks.

I've bought the MRT one for my Classic...
Haven't got round to fitting it yet though.
I was wondering if it required a remap to suit the improved airflow??
Also, it seems as if the first 'take-off' point (the one nearest the MAF) is incorrect for a UK car...It is a large right-angled pipe exiting from the top of the intake pipe. - This may have to be modified and used to feed the charcoal cannister ( I think that's what it is ) as the feed on the OE pipe is on the underneath of it, and this is not catered for on the MRT pipe!
I don't know if you will encounter a similar problem for your model year, as the intake pipe will be different to a classic !

Stock pipe is more than adequate up to a point but if you have a look at one off the car, it's not the best design in the world.
I would consider the MRT pipe (I have one) if you are after SERIOUS power, otherwise spend the money elsewhere.
They do give a simply awesome induction noise though. Sounds like Concorde!

Sorry to bump up an old one but i need some advice.
04WRX - i've got the Samco TB997 on order to replace stock part.
I dont mind chopping the stock part to bits to get it off if i have to but will the Samco go on without having to remove the inlet?
Looking at the engine bay - it seems there's plenty of room but some people are saying it's a bitch to fit and others are saying it's an inlet off jobbie.
Thanks for any help.

I ordered the AVO for a friend that is more or less similar with the MRT but seems that mates better with factory MAF housing.
They promise increased throttle response at low revs and better performance at high but we'll see how it is.
They advertise it as the only one that doesn't need removing of the inlet manifold as it has in different position one of the hoses (www.avoturboworld.com).

Cheers Jim,
well i've had two retailers say it's possible to get it in without inlet removal but they both say it is a bitch.
Think i'm gonna have to make a start on it early in the day in case it goes a bit pete tong.

I busted the dump valve return connection thingy off my original one (MY98) and got the Samco on without removing the inlet. The Samco is compressible so isn't too bad to get on although it's a bit fiddly. Some of the pipe connections on it are not glued on so can be removed to help get the pipe on and replaced later. I also tried loosening the bolts for the inlet but that didn't help because the difficulty is actually getting the old pipe off between the inlet and the fuel pipes which are bolted to it and can't be removed with it in situ.
