Default Charge coolers vs Inter coolers

Why do all the big power turbo cars around today use intercoolers and not chargecoolers?

Because chargecoolers can't dissipate so much heat over extended periods

They weight more too by having to have a pump, rad, and water.

Well they're generally easier to plumb in because you're working with bendy smaller diameter hoses instead of big metal air tubing

There must be gains in that the turbo lag must be reduced due to shorter runs of pipe to the heat exchanger??

You can have intercoolers right next to the intake too, as in the Subaru TMIC arrangement

C/Coler is good for traffic situations, better than ATA I/C that sits ontop of the engine!

pros and cons for both set-ups though..

Disagree, charge coolers are worse coz the water warms up and wont cool down again till you get some speed up

I'd say a good charge cooler would be much better for day to day use, however would get too hot for the likes of the track.

You could have the benifits front mount cooling and top mount lag.... for short periods of time.

I seriously thought about one but couldn't be botherd building the whole thing!

Didnt Andy F had a chargecooler on his?

I thought he had 350-370bhp with chargecooler - 1/4mile in 11.7
FMIC - 440bhp - 1/4 mile in 11.66

?

Yes the chargecooler was excellent for 1/4 mile racing, 369bhp on a TD05 not so good for extended track use although 6 lap stints were fine, followed by a few cool down laps. A bigger radiator would have helped here but that starts to add weight
I liked the instant power after a gearchange with the CC, even using short pipework on a front manifold entry FMIC the lag was greater between gears.
