Default Re-map for MY93 WRX...

Hi,

I am looking to re-map my93 WRX import but am unsure as to what ecu is best for the job...

I've been looking at the LINK package from BR developments but it's quite expensive, is there any other options that i could take...

Looking for new ecu rather than scoobyecu plugins etc...

Cheers,

John.

I belive Steve Simpson's got a new ECU comming out for pre my96 cars, comes in arround the £900 mark (not sure if that includes mapping, think it did though) doesn't have all the bells and whistles that you'll never use.

If you are looking to remap yourself, then this is probably a wise choice. But the scoobyecu can be custom mapped to your requirements.

The Townend ECU is not, as I understand, ready for every user to do their own remapping.

Motec M400 plug'n'play would be a great way to go.

If you go Apexi, I would recommend that you speak to Andy Forrest wrt to getting it mapped first time.

Hi Pavlo,

To be honest i would prefer to go the scoobyecu route for the obvious reasons...

The problem is that i have had serveral scoobyecu chips from david and they did'nt work, he said he was gonna try and get it sorted but i've been waiting 4 months now and am getting a little board of waiting...david why aint you answering my emails no more...lol...

So i have decided that i'm gonna go a diffrent route (saving already started)...:O

Apexi looks good, where can i get hold of Andy Forrest mate...

Reagrds,

John.

YHM in a minute David...

There are a few Power FC's on ebay but they say they are for S13's etc, would i just have to buy a diffrent harness/adaptor to get these to fit my WRX, then get it mapped...!!!

Cheers,

John.

John,

ScoobyECUs are designed for 90% of people, of the other 5% they can be tweaked to suit, and the rest should get a custom map.

If you want we can map your existing board with full in car diagnostics.

For a power FC you need a subaru specific one, and the correct one for your year as they are application specific.

Used 6 row link would be a good alternative, or if you don't mind making an adaptor harness I think a Link Plus would be good too.

My personal preference would be to avoid GEMS at the current time.

Interesting mate, is this something you could do in the near future...

Would be nice to save some money for a change, just had a £800 gearbox bill, which was nice...

David, Paul, there's been reacuring posts on here lately for ECU upgrades for pre 96Scoobs, and you've always straight in with get a ScoobyECU

But in reality when somones takes you up on your offer, it seems to follow the same route.

1. there not available
2. there being produced
3. be paient.....
4. David, Paul, will reply to your e-mails...
5. nothing.....
6. don't hasstle David, Paul there busy...
7. nothing.....
8. we do this as a hobby
9. and finaly David's response like above

Come on guys, i've been tunning cars for 10+yrs, and i've no idea how to deal with you, i wont send you e-mails, when i get no replys, all you need to do is let people know where they stand.

Roy.

Risky,

please don't tar me with the same brush......

I stopped using the ScoobyECU adaptor due to the PCB supply not being able to keep up with the demand. This is the exact reason why Paul and David now have such a backlog. Also the PCB supplier has alot of other things on the go (also Subaru related) and is not just dedicated to supplying ScoobyECU PCB's.

After I stopped using the Adaptor I started to use Genuine 27C1028 chips (about 70-Off), which I had to source from Aus. Although this was a problem, I could at least expect to get them a few days after requesting them.

I'm just glad I knocked it on th head, especially when you consider that at times I was receiving 4 ECU in one day. All of which want returning the following day fully modded and with the correct map allocated to the right ECU (there are too many variants). And in most cases prior to payment/cheque clearance.

Also considering I done about 85 of these things, thats a fair few trips to the Post Office and Royal Mail Collection depot.....

Lastly, the fact that upgrading with a ScoobyECU can highlight problems elsewhere with the car i.e MAF, 02, Coilpacks, Plugs etc..etc.. gives us no end of grief/stress....

If somebody else wants to start mapping Pre96 for the bargain price £100 or less (and try and maintain a full time job), then I'm sure David and Paul would be glad of a little light relief.

P.S I still get weekly emails asking for them, 2 months after stopping......

Mr Smash

Don't misunderstand, boards coming in. I spoke to manufacturer yesterday and there should hopefully be a hand full ready as part of the full order.

Unhappy

Guy's i think you've taken it the wrong way.

Right, first off the product is exclent, exclent value for money, people with them fitted can't recomend them highly enough.

Secondly, your all of great use to the comunity, your level of technical knowledge is invaluable (on ocaisions you've known more than the specialists)

Scott, the times we have spoken on here you've been very helpful, and i think it's a great loss you've stopped fitting the boards.
Paul, i think your only guilty of not reading your e-mails correctly, (that's all)
David, you droped everything!!! to fit me in, but left me hanging when we had problems.

I offered my help when i saw David, something a simple as a little note on the ScoobyECU home page stating something as simple as an expected waiting time, or current satus on the manufacture of the boards, it's got to help out in the long run. Basicaly i think there must be a simple solution to keep everyone happy, i didn't mean to cause offence, not my style. I genuinely (sp) feel sorry for you when you keep getting hastled on here.

BUT, it wouldn't hurt to reply to your e-mails to keep people up to date!

Roy.

I'm guilty of jumping the que!! so if anyone wants a month old board not fitted, drops us a line.

Think its about expectations,

I have been waiting 3 months because stupid me missed out on the last batch from Scott T - my fault..

However I have waited pretty patiently because the scoobyecu provides the best solution at a fraction of the cost to others.

I guess this is why it generates so much work for Paul/David and its a shame because frustration grows and the last thing anyone wants is for u guys to stop doing them.

Thing is there are other options on the market but its costly - so im waiting for when stock can get sorted and have they time to deal with me.

Thats the price im prepared to pay for skilled people in their own time giving me a good option that will probably meet my needs.

If it was a £1000 re-map and system and I had paid my money it would be another matter.

Anyway enough ramble - Paul/David I think the majority appreciate what ur doing and I for one will wait until things get going and hope you dont decide to drop this service.....not least because you know what ur doing.

The ecu is kinda part of the whole scooby ownership culture (IMHO) and its nice to have the "home-grown" option.

(PS if I could help I would but I can just imagine my first customer map....whee - bang !)

Hi all would be interested to know why you wouldnt recomend the GEMS ECU as surely all ECU`s do the same job the only difference is the person mapping them.

When Scott was mapping I used to supply the 1028 chips to him, and still have supply.

Logistics and hassle factor of posting ecu's to and from Australia prohibit me from doing any installations, but if it would help to clear the current backlog I can post out either blanks, or programmed chips to David/Pavlo, or to those wanting to install themselves.

On the "be patient" theme I am currently developing some ROM editing software which is nearly ready for release. This will allow users of these and ScoobyECU boards to tweak/re-map themselves. I hope to have the first version ready in a couple of weeks time.

Alex. :8
