Burning smell from engine bay

Burning smell from engine bay
Came back on Saturday from quite a lively 20 mile drive, let car cool down and popped her in the garage, went back in there 15 mins later to get something and noticed a stong smell of burning coming from the engine bay area, couldn'r really pinpoint it to one particular spot, it dissapated within about 15 more mins.
Have noticed it once before about 4/5 weeks ago, same set of circumstances, no problems when its been driven lightly only when I push it along a bit, hardly do any miles in the week as I live 2 miles from work and don't always get out for the weekend so it could be 3/4 weeks of very light driving before I go out for a blast, wondered if this might have any bearing on the smell being as it doesn't get fully warmed up that often.
Any ideas/suggestions would be most welcome, its due for a service soon also so I will have a word when it goes in.
Cheers

Probably the rocker cover gaskets. Look down the sides of the engine, and see if you can see a fine mist / spray. It tends to hit the manifold and burn. hence the smell. Don think its a major job.

Check your transmission oil. Mechanics have a habit of overfilling it and after a fast drive it can overflow from the top giving you this burnt oil smell. If that's the case have your mechanic drain it to the proper level.
