During a fairly hard driving stint today, on full boost going up a hill the engine sort of cut out momentarily and the engine management light came on immediately. I stopped a mile or so up the road - let the car idle for a minute or two, stopped the car, turned the ignition on and off a dozen times, the light stayed on. After it has been stood for a couple of hours went to start it and the light has gone out??
Anyone have any idea what this could be? The car is an MY03 WRX PPP, it's going in for it's 10k service tomorrow! Wouldn't mind some impartial advice, could this be anything to worry about? Car has SUL in this tank full - normally run Optimax.
Cheers Barney

Do an ECU check Clicky
CEL indicates a fault linked with the ECU e.g MAF sensor etc.
Edited to say the connectors to complete this are usually located under the drivers side of the dashboard and maybe wrapped in tape but usually you can't miss the black and green connectors

Cheers Richie
Do you think it could have just been a bit of crap in the fuel or something, the car just hesitated for a second then seemed OK appart from the light staying on - which has gone off now.
This tank of fuel is Esso SUL - normally run Optimax but the car feels faster and smoother on SUL, unless it's my imagination?!

Richie's advice to check the ECU won't work on a new shape car as they don't have the engine check connectors.
Barney - seeing as your car is booked in for service anyway, you should tell the garage that you CEL came on, and ask them to find out what the error code was and investigate the reasons.
It certainly shouldn't be overboost on an otherwise standard WRX PPP, unless you've decatted it, or fitted some other breathing related modifications?

Cheers Greasemonkey never knew the the new shape did not have jumper connectors to check the ECU. Probably done to make a few more quid with people having to go to dealers to check them over

Sounds like overboost, probably down to the weather or possibly contamination of the boost pipes. It will show up as a fault with the boost solenoid, which it isn't.
