exhaust manifold wrap, smelling!!!
#1
I have just wrapped my gruppe-s headers with exhaust wrap.
I have only driven the car about 5 miles since i wrapped them, but there is an aweful smell and a bit of smoke coming from them.
Anybody else had this problem or can recommend a cure??

The wrap will smoke for abit as you have wet the wrap to activate the glue. They guy told me its best to just let the car run whilst stationary till it stops smoking, he said this is usually about 30 mins.

After putting on a newly wrapped set of headers, I set of out of the village, onto dual carriageway for a couple of miles, then stopped at a roundabout to get onto the motorway. Smoke was billowing everywhere - I had a Merc on either side - both were looking nervously at me & one even started reversing
That was a giggle
Once that stage had passed, there's a smell of Pop-Tarts () that comes back if the car's been in a downpour. Apart from occassionaly making me hungry, there's no problems...

Had also noticed the "burnt cookies" or "poptart" smell too.
I also pulled up at a set of traffic lights and everyone was looking at the car as smoke poured from the arches and grill
I will put a bit more mileage on it and see what happens.

Yeah, my wrap smoked and smelled for a while now. It's settled down and doesn't do that now. However, if the wrap gets wet (i.e. if the car's been standing in the rain for a while) it will steam as the manifold heats up and the wrap dries out. The initial smell went after about a fortnight, IIRC.
