Thumbs up

MAF was on the way out as evidenced by erratic idle. Had it changed a couple of weeks back before any serious damage was done and now notice that fuel consumption has improved from just under 20mpg to just over 25mpg. This is after two tanks of fuel and no big changes in routes or driving style.

Does this make sense - could it really have been running so rich?
If my calculations are right, replacing the MAF will pay for itself in under 6 months through lower fuel bills!

Is this common after replacing a faulty MAF?

Pretty common, due to the correct fuelling now being used, as opposed to the ecu over compensating!
I wish I'd had trhat bib a change when I did mine!!

Fingers crossed I might see something similiar then. I am having my MAF replaced on Friday, I've not noticed any erratic idling issues but with all the talk of ECU's compensating, and piston problems....

My car is at 3 years and 45k miles fuel consumption is atrocious, MY00PPP, average probably less than 16 MPG, and I drive like a nun in carpet slippers.
