Question

Why does my driver swiper start skipping across the screen at 80mph? Passengers one is fine. It's a pain because it leave "chop marks"...collections of water that are halfway down the window and then the wiper skips leaving them EXACTLY in my field of view. It gets no better if you go faster.

I have tried Bosch wipers (with the really big spoiler on the back) thinking this would fix it, to no avail. I traied Subaru Offical items (EXPENSIVE!!!!) and they are no better either.

This has bugged me for 2 years now and is a pain in the backside.

It only does it on the downward stroke, so it's obviously the wiper struggling against the air rushing up the windscreen.

What can I do?

You could try some rainX on the windscreen, this may help, does wonders for the rear windows with no wipers.

Hi

Presume you have changed the whole blade and not just the rubber.
Used to just change the rubber myself resulting in skip, then changed the whole blade to Champion and it's now 100%. Hope this helps.

Can certainly TRY a champion. Am changing the whole thing bar the arm every time. The Subaru ones have an extra bit in the middle of the blade...which makes NO difference at all. Waste of £60

Will try the champion stuff.

Any other suggestions?

Is the spring on the conecting arm ok / strong enough ?
May have been over stretched at one point.

Other than that try cleaning the screen with vinager and newspaper.
It removes all the grease which helps with smearing as well as sticking blades.

I changed to the PIAA wipers - they coat the screen with the 'rainX' style slippy stuff (technical term ) No jumping or skipping.

It's definitely not grease on the windscreen: It's an aerodynamic thing. The wiper arm spring is a possibility though!

Will check that in a minute.

Cool

I had this until I fitted a PIAA blade and since then it has been fine. They also coat the screen with silicon which means over 70-80mph water get blown up the screen so you can drive in heavy rain without even needing the wipers on. Not cheap but definitely worth it!
