New air filter for MY00 turbo?
#1
Has anyone got any comments on the ITG Performance Panel Air Filter? I'm considering buying one and need some second opinions.
Performance gains? Sounds? Any adverse effects?
I have read that it is nearly as good as an induction kit but doesn’t mess with the air sensor. Also lasts about 20K miles without needing to be changed out.
Is it as good as it sounds?
Cheers

Anyone who tells you that the ITG Performance Panel has no effect on the airflow meters of these cars clearly doesn't have much experience of them. Use the Search button, and you'll quickly find plenty of examples of the gunk on these filters causing MAF sensor contamination.
As John says, there's little to gain, and potentially a lot to lose. The choice is yours, but if you're desperate to change the filter, you'd be taking less of a risk with a less gunky filter.

The K+N panel filter worked well for me and if you shop around it will not cost a lot more than the O/E Subaru which is thrown away at service. This could be a way forward for you prior to a larger cone or cylindrical filter if you have decide to go further and are prepared to build a cold air box or system to go with the cone etc.

Harvey,
Your one of the people who has a box around you cone filter, aren't you? Do you have any pictures? I'm trying to build one myself but wouldn't mind some advice, ie. do I move the alarm, do I enclose the boost solenoid etc, do I enclose the ABS, what volume is the box?
Thanks,
Paul

The only bit you need to keep cool is the air filter so any other parts you enclose is because it is easier to do it that way. My "box" uses the bonnet as the lid and air is forced in through a duct and scoop to the filter area. Air is also forced into the inner wing, the snorkle is removed and the opening in the inner wing is greatly enlarged. The blank plate on the louver above the filter is removed so air EXITS from there.
Do not remove the blank plate on its own unless you are feeding a good volume of air into the filter area as described.
