Bugeye tuning advice?

Any Ideas?
I have a MY01 WRX that I would like to get tweaked to get around 260 ft lbs and similar Bhp anything extra is a bonus. My budget for this is about £1600.00 which is what the PPP would cost for this car.
I would like it to be able to pass MOT but wouldn’t mind refitting the centre cat to achieve this prior to test.
Thanks
Tandy

Why not just go for the PPP then?
Alternatively, a full exhaust (downpipe, centre section and backbox) and EcuTek ECU remap should do the job.
Backbox: £301
Downpipe: £223
Up-pipe: £147
Centre: £212
ECU remap: £760
It's a few quid over your £1600 figure, but you could always sacrifice the up-pipe (perhape the least value for money item). That should provide plenty of entertainment, and some nice noises too. This configuration would remove all the cats from your car. You could replace the centre cat at MOT time, if you want. However - it's not guaranteed to pass with just that one (small) cat in place. Bear in mind - there are plenty of MOT stations around that will 'help' your car through its emissions test.
These exhaust items are taken from Scoobysport's prices in the ScoobyShop. There are plenty of other respected suppliers in the ScoobyShop, too.

Thanks Fatman,
Reason for not wanting PPP is the only info from prodrive for the MY01 qoutes 245Bhp I have seen on here that this has now been improved as they now use an Ecutek remap as opposed to the origanal piggyback chip although I have tried to confirm this with prodrive but not had a reply.
I think I have also read that the MMY01 has one additional cat to the MY03 which is why the 01 is 218 Bhp where as the 03 is 228 Bhp is this correct? do I need it to pass Mot?
I think I would rather spend a bit more money on higher flow cats than bugger about at MOT time.

I believe that Prodrive started using EcuTek software for their MY03 PPPs.
I don't have an MY01 myself, but from reading here on ScoobyNet, it seems that they do have three cats (up-pipe, downpipe and centre). 'Classic' (MY00 and before) and newer (MY03) cars only have the two (downpipe and centre). To be honest, I don't know how effective or restrictive the up-pipe cat is. I suggest you either ask a specialist or wait for an owner to pop up on here who has done this mod to their car.
High-flow cats are available, but they're quite dear. By all means use one if you are concerned about your car being 100% legal and able to pass an emissions test at any point. However, if you're less concerned then there are MOT stations out there who will help pass a car that otherwise might not.

they used to use the piggy back chip but then they changed to an ecutek ecu, that replaces the original, and its the same for all models now, i mean, 01,02,03 all use the same method. I would decat and get a tek 3 remap if i was you, im quite sure replacing teh centre cat you can get it through an mot, (i cant gurantee it). You could with a tek 3 and total decat, also a panel filter get alot better performance increase than with a ppp. Maybe you can contact brdevelopments or tsl on the phone and tell them what you have to spend and ask them what they suggest, they are the ultimate people to ask as they do the work, also they will give you a better idea of what to expect, i would think somewhere near to 260-270 if not more with those things done.
