smells like clutch slip!
#1
I keep getting that burning clutch smell on my 02 STi7. The car has only got 25000 miles on it, does anyone know if this is normal. The clutch seems to be working fine, and I haven't been doing the boy racer thing!
Any comments, or should I just take her to a local dealer?

I'd get it to a dealer before anything does fail totally. Normally these clutches are good for anything up to 80,000 with normal useage. But "when" does it smell like its slipping? is it just when reversing and slipping the clutch anyway?

Jezb - I have only done 5300ish miles in mine and if I hold it on the clutch on a hill (i.e at red lights) it burns like hell

It 'smells' intermittently (sp), I haven't noticed it when reversing, it's normally after accelerating through gears. I do also get judder from 2nd to 3rd gear sometimes?

Are you sure it isn't teen spirit you can smell?
The clutches on the new cars do seem to smell a bit when worked, so this alone may be no cause for concern. However, if it's juddering, as Scoobyslut says, get it looked at.

Thanks guys and gals, just spoke to a Westaway in Northampton...he reckons that if it is the clutch that is burning, unless there is a fault with it, I will have to pay for a new one as it wouldn't be covered by the warranty. He says that there is no way to check it out unless they take gearbox out. Plus he says that he has never had to replace a clutch on an sti7 before!
So the question is, do I get it looked at and charged @ £700 if it isn't covered by warranty or do put up and shut up?
The judder, he puts down to my **** poor driving!

And in reference to the clutch judder.... wasn't there a thread on here last week about loads of people having clutches replaced under warranty just because of judder.
