Legacy GTB Advice ... help please ???
#2
Can anyone give me advice on buying a Legacy GTB please. I am after a non white manual car no older than 1998. I contacted one seller and his had engine work done. Something about replacing/upgrading the oil pump etc. Is this a known issue that could cause oil starvation?
Is it worth getting an AA Engineers inspection with this kind of car or would they not really know anything about it?
Or should I just pay thru the nose and buy from one of the dealers for peace of mind?
If you know anyone or any source of info on these cars then please let me know.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Board
We got our MY99 B4 RSK (Manual) 2 years ago knowing very little about the car. Most of the questions we had were answered on the yahoo b4 forum and everyone has always proved most helpful. The only problems we have encountered so far are:
19mpg (I'm told this is down to driving style...Big Grin!)
Lots of money spent on Optimax
Depreciation with the new models about to hit our shores the prices are bound to fall hard.
And thats about it (touching large piece of wood) By far this has been the best vehicle we've owned and also the stealthiest!! You have no idea how many cars have been taken by surprise by Subarus best kept secret!!

Hi Matt, hope you are still enjoying the car - certainly sounds like it
Board, I don't think it can hurt for the AA to give it a once over. Many of the major components are shared with other Subies, and they can still check the basics (it is a car with 4 round rubber things near each corner after all ).
Hope you find a good'un!
Cheers

Bought a 2001 GTB (7000 miles) through Park Lane down south in the summer
Very helpful and seem to always have one coming in/in stock
Great car with no problems
doing 2500 miles per month on 97ron which is key

Yes I found a Phase 2 GTB manual on a 98 S plate with 26000 on the clock, awesome. Yours is a good looking car, literally I drove it on Sat, did a deal, but went away to get some insurance quotes, phoned on Tue to say I would have it and blow me they had sold it! Still I'm not gutted the one I found is great. Enjoy.
