Would guess that as you PIAA box, your car does not have front fog lights, but front driving lights (that come on when on main beam)

your fog switch is probably set as an override switch to knock the driving lamps off altogether, try mainbeam with the switch off and then on.

if no joy then check your bulbs.

Question

Does the "PIAA box", (which I will now refer to as a relay : ), have a fuse ON it, or in the SUPPLY to it?
If yes, then check, and replace the fuse, if necessary.

Now you've done that, get someone to switch on the fogs from in the car, (engine running, of course), and select, then deselect main beam.
Do you feel the relay click?
If yes, suspect the bulbs.
If no, check that there is a wire connected to relay terminal 85, (or 86) coming from the headlight main beam, and one from terminal 86 (or85) to earth.

If you have a circuit tester, check that the former wire is live when you select as above.
If it is, suspect relay. if it's not, you're gonna need to find out why not.

If, by now, you're out of your depth, try an auto electrician, but tell 'em what you already did, so they don't repeat it and charge you for it.

Mine have the same problem, someone suggested that the connectors behind the switch can come loose.

I've been too lazy to bother so far though.

ok,...got someone to sit in the car/flickin main beam on and off.i heard the relay click but sometimes it seemed to be delayed, however looked at the fogs and they still did'nt work.Iv'e checked the bulbs and they work fine so i went back to the relay had a look at the connections on the 85-86 they seem to be wired up right.took the cover of the relay and found that there IS a fuse so checked that (30 amp) and thats ok but there was a bit of rusty water on the fuse connectors so got me little screw driver scaped off the dis colour and poped the fuse back in...........now the bloody relay dont work at all! new relay?

could be a bad earth as that can do all sorts of strange things

flashing brake lights etc

try taking the relay out and power up the wire that goes to the lights usually tells you pin outs on the side of the relay
