I spied this in Maplins for £19 and thought I could fit it "somehow" to the throttle body and hot side of intercooler.

What sort of temperature is the hot side likely to get to?

Have you mounted something similar?
Should I just dangle the thermistor inside one of the pipes or try and stick it on the inside?

Here is what I bought for 20 sheets

Dangle - needs to be in the airflow, in the same way the MAF is. Sticking it to the pipe will give you the temperature of the pipe, not the air.

Oh, forgot. Manifold pressure/temperature sensors are usually rated to 130C for operation, and must withstand 145C without damage.

Which bit was £20, just the thermistors or the whole lot including display?

Also, do you have the part number?

ooh $hit, might be a bit warm on the hot side then.. cable has 105 deg C stamped on it.

Cheers Pavlo
Hopefully the cold side should be colder than 60 on mine.

Aha, found it on the website (it's only £15 on there, though )

Only runs up to 90C though

I wonder if it's modifiable?

Actually, this is perfect for measuring intake temp at filter and intake at TB.

Fuzz, how long are the wires?

about 4 feet

I think they can be lengthened, they look like normal cable.

I also think the actual thermistor would need gluing to a stip of plastic or something. it's vey flexible and if left in the airstream with no support it would soon fatigue and be eaten.

Andy
Still, it looks good in the pc case

Bought one

I'll probably fit it tomorrow, but it'll sit nicely in the DIN slot above my stereo and butt up nicely against my Dawes AFR, it just needs a little trimming work with a Dremel.

Its 1st job will be to compare ambient temp with underbonnet temps (at the filter).

Good find!

I bought a temperature module and a 'low temp. probe' from Maplin a few months ago. So far it's not in the car but I've used it to sense the temperature of a can of 'Old Speckled Hen' in my mini-fridge :-)

AFAIK the cables can be lengthened at the cost of slightly reduced accuracy.

I was looking for something like this....
Monitor and fan controller

...but I couldn't find one that was cheap at the time.

Vindaloo.
