My Subaru Dealer told me that this is the Mobil 1 that they put on the Sti... is this possible? I read here about many grades: 5-40 on the official dealers, 15-50 as aftermarket product, and now it adds the 5-50... (and if you look the mobil 1 web the trouble incrases with the new grades, 5-30, 10-30...)

Any advice welcom...

Scary - its too thin!!

Really want about 10/60 - Castrol RS or Silkolene - think this is about 10/50

I can confirm now that the mobil 1 offered by my dealealer is 5-50 grade.

I have been speaking both with Castrol and Mobil 1 and no one of these have recomended me to use the more viscosity grades (10-60 and 15-50). Bottom line is that for track days and so they are fine, but for all-day use, they are far from be the best because the 80% (some say 90%) of the wear along the motor life it is caused untill the "optimun" work temperature for the engine is reached (and according to the driveing type this can happen after 30km.).

Before been talking with engineers and Castrol, Mobil 1... and collect information about this matter I cant accept as a clear option the use of a 10-60 like grade of oil... Experts sould speack here go on!

And we sould not forget that the "prefered" oil grade displayed on the owners manual is 5-30...

So I choose by the moment the 5-50 grade mobil 1.

PS: For those that are interested, the european web of mobil 1 is being developed raight now. There will be the european market grades (at least I was told this).

Regards,
Jon

In the UK Mobil 1 was 5/50 before they changed to the 0/40 grade. Why they eventually made 15/50 available instead of bringing back the 5/50 is to me, a puzzle!

Oh bugger, my mind is boggled by all this - I lay awake worrying about wether my new baby is running the correct oil (the dealer recommends the 5-50 Mobil 1 or is it 5-40 can't remember).

Anyway it's new and under warranty so if it goes bang they can fix it FOC as they service it!!

I recon a Scuby main dealer from year dot should have a reasonable idea and maybe the rest is just down to a nats c@ck hair and opinion.
