Is the internal diameter of the new up-pipe slightly smaller? If so it could be due to increased velocity in the exhaust gases causes faster spool.

Sometimes a larger uppipe can actually reduce the boost because gas velocity can reduce. However, any breathing mod can affect boost control. Just adjust the Dawes back to where you were and hope it represents improved efficiency (usually does).

Thumbs up

I helped drb5 fit the up-pipe tonight and I would hazard a guess the internal diameter of the new up-pipe was at least 2 inch possibly 2.5 though.
Any ideas why drb5 is not seeing fuel cut even when it's boosting to 22 psi!

What sort of boost gauge is it?
I get high max peaks on an SpA digital boost that should take it above fuel cut but I don't get it.
Could be seeing a very quick pressure surge that doesn't last long enough for fuel cut to happen.
Is it true that the spike has to last for 1/2 sec before ECU registres it and cuts fuel?

Not sure about your car, but it's 2 seconds for MY99 Impreza IIRC before ECU reacts.

Did you contact SPA? Any feedback?

Alan,
The 1/2 sec delay was gossip so I didn't really know if it was true.
SpA don't seem to want to talk by phone nor answer e-mails in a rush.
I have raised the sampling rate to 1 second but still get a high tell tale (max. now 17.9 psi).
The display boost never goes above low 11 psi so the sample rate is definately smoothing this out. I am wondering if the tell tale is really influenced by the sample rate?

Adjusting the sampling rate alters how quickly the displayed value updates on the screen. If you set it at say 0.5second, the display will update every 0.5 seconds. If you make it 10 seconds, then it will update very 10 seconds. Reason for altering this value is so that user doesn't become too distracted by flickering numbers on the display if you set the rate at say 0.1 of a second.

As a suggestion, set the sampling to 0.4 and put the gauge on high resolution. Take the car out and look at what reading you are seeing as you go up the rev range.

Can't be definite, but altering the sampling rate won't affect peak reading by the sensor. It only affects the displayed value as far as i know.

i'm using a secs monitor to read boost.

there was a pipe missing a while ago that i found down the side of the engine. looks like it has a small diafram that links up to the induction pipe and the carbon canister. we took it off and blocked the pipe that went to a t-piece that went to the boost solenoid. could this be the cause of the upped boost?
