Thanks for the words of wisdom people. I'll be checking out the sites mentioned. I've been told to go for a Type R as they're pretty mean cars but I'm not sure what they go for and the differences between them as they go upto version 6 (I think).
Thanks again...

Hi all,
I used to own a MY96 2.0 Sport and I'm now after a classic shape, face-lift model Turbo but I'm in need of lots of info as I'm un-sure what to get.
What I am after is any links or information on the techs and specs of all the impreza's, both home grown and imported.
Some things in particular I would like to know (if any of you lot know) are:
What improvements were made to the facelift model?
Engine / body / suspension mods etc.
What differences are there between imports and UK spec cars?
I know there are probably loads but any info or big clues will be appreciated
What are the differences between WRX, WRX STi and WRX STi Type R Jap import cars? (apart from price!)
Again, just after any engine / suspension / body differences.
Basically, what I am looking for is the best car I can get for the money I have. My budget is £8k.
What can you recommend? and why?
Thanks for the help.

A big factor in your choice could be your age??? If you are younger than 25 then I would say get a uk turbo for resonable insurance, imports are hard to insure if you are young!!

I'm a mere 23.
I've had a quote from Tesco on a WRX 4-door import and it was £1880. A UK turbo is £1300. The way I am looking at it is that I am willing to pay the extra on insurance for an import if I can get a better all-round car i.e. with £500 worth's of toys on the car, or more power.
Just need to get an idea on what WRX's are around, if they vary a lot or not.
I'm not looking forward to paying lots for insurance but hopefully it will be lower than that when I come to buying the actual car as I would have notched up another years NCB (touch wood).

Tons of sites out there mate,
Dunno how do the clicky but here is a good one
http://www.iwoc.co.uk/
As for the import/UK argument, I went through that as well and in the end I just went for the import. But you take your risks, just make sure you get it mapped for UK fuel or are near optimax.
Also ask yourself what your using it for - does 250 bhp make that much of a difference over 220 ish.
Pretty cheap imports these days !

I pay £1700 FC on a MY99 STI5 TypeR....so forget about the insurance worries. Jap cars are not much difference than UK ones to insure.
For the money you have, I would be keeping my eye open for a good STI4 (pre facelift)
There is not much difference between these and the STI5, except that the STI5 (facelift model) are more expensive. If you want a good STI5, you'll need to spend a little more.
