I've seen pics posted up on SN and i've saved them to make sure i know where to fit the knock sensor when i get round to fiting it..
However when i tried fitting the knock sensor i couldn't find where it should go..

The car is an MY98 wrx..

Is the one in the pic below the standard knock sensor?

Cool

Franko,

Yeah the 1 in the 1st pic is the std knock sensor
U can attach the second sensor at any suitably tapped hole,
but for best results have it near number 2. I mounted my own
on the manifold lug above number 2 and it`s worked for me
long enough.

Pete,
Doesn't it need to be on the block? Brilliant if its working fine mounted on the manifold it be easier to fit
When you say numbet two,is that piston number two?

You basically replace one of the intercooler bracket bolts with a longer version which holds the knock sensor against the bracket & block. All you have to do is remove the I/Cooler. Replacing it was the more tricky bit.

On my car (95 WRX) I didn't HAVE to remove the i/c - I ended up having to install/remove/install/remove the sensor/bolt a couple of times and one time I loosened the i/c bolts and other times I didn't. Is easier with it loosened, probably easiest with it unbolted totally but access is pretty tight anyway I think.
On my car there was a threaded hold that happily accepted an appropriate bolt right beside where the front corner i/c bolted to the block so I used that one. Seems to work fine, lights flicker on startup but quiet the rest of the time.

This is where i finally managed to fit the knock sensor...
Does this location seem okay?

I get the first green light (very dim) and then it lights up at 3.5k revs and then the second green just flickers on n off i get the orange to flicker at very high revs not sure how high though.. (only upto 3rd gear) higher gears dont flicker above green. does this sound okay? havn't got the final big LED to light up yet (only by knocking the block with a spaner i get this to light)
