sounds exactly like a problem I had, although not sure about the brakes bit.

It was the drop links on the suspension. I replaced all four yesterday, although 2 needed doing. Car had done 75k miles. Easy job, stopped the creaking, tightened up the handling too.

Question

Darren/Steve

Is it creaking when you are steering at those low speeds ?

My MY99 (17k miles) has just started creaking AGAIN after the dealer claimed to have fixed it last month !
Is there a way to check for worn drop links ?

Cheers
Pete

Rear drop links are C-shaped black plastic/rubber things. Fronts are metal, vertical links, about 4-6 inches long.

You can feel play in them if they are worn just by hand, give 'em a good shake, tug 'em about a bit. There should be no play in them.
